Created during the pandemic of 2020, a time of pain and loss exposing deep and enduring inequalities and injustices in our society, this image expresses my recognition of the double epidemic of racism and Covid 19. I use watercolor and charcoal for landscape elements, the figures drawn to and repelled by the virus spitting face, and the child and bereft mother, embraced by loss. These images are interwoven with colored papers, some chewed by mice in a cabin drawer, creating an environment of longing and threat.
